 | Marjan Aikimbaeva '10 (Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets) Microfinance Consultant Fundación Paraguaya Asunción, Paraguay | |
"Right now I am conducting an impact analysis for the entire organization. I will be calculating the effectiveness of Fundación Paraguaya's programs on the elimination of poverty in Paraguay. Everything I learned last year in the master program enables me to do such analysis. In fact, this project will be an improved version of my grad project for GSE." Eye on Alumni Feature |

| Thiago Arashiro '10 (Competition and Market Regulation) Economist Tendêndicas Consultoria Integrada São Paulo, Brazil |
|
"My work involves econometric analysis to support companies during their merger process, advising companies against a complaint of anti-competitive practices in the competition authority, or any case related to competition policy. We also have to deal with theoretical issues advising regulated-industry companies (such as electricity) during public consultations. I was hired right after graduating from the master program - the highly practical focus of the program gave me good knowledge to perform this type of challenging analysis." |

| David Araujo '09 (Economics of Science and Innovation) Director TATA Consultancy Services (Ecuador) | |
| "I am the director of the Business Intelligence, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Practice for the Quito office of TATA Consultancy Services. I manage all of the projects involving the implementation of business intelligence, as well as those cases involving the generation of new businesses and exploitation of technology, which is all quite closely related with what we studied in the MESI program. "Prior to this, I was in charge of the Technology Exploitation & Entrepreneurship Department at ASCAMM in Barcelona. This involved trying to transfer technologies the center produces in its R&D projects (European, national or regional) into the market, either by licensing our patents or by creating spin-offs." |

Associate RBB Economics (The Hague, Netherlands) | |
"I am currently working on a merger in the pharmaceutical industry between two of the largest global players. It basically involves defining relevant markets and determining how much market power would be held by the combined entity in each of them following the merger. This allows us to identify those markets that are likely to cause competition concerns, with the next step being to take a closer look at the validity of those concerns per market. As the analysis covers a broad spectrum of markets across a large number of countries, it is a highly data intensive project with a relatively long duration. A particular challenge here is being able to coordinate to collect sufficient data on a global scale and build up a reliable database as the foundation for further analysis." Eye on Alumni Feature |

| Alessandro Panozzo '08 (Finance)
Consultant Accenture (Italy) |
|
"In 2007 I decided to deepen my economic and financial knowledge by attending the Barcelona GSE's master program in Finance. This 'sabbatical year' was for me a great opportunity to extend my studies in the fields of finance, investments and business in an extremely multicultural environment and, last but not least, staying in an unforgettable city like Barcelona! Once I came back to Accenture, I could apply what I'd learned to several areas of my work as a professional consultant: - Comparison with international students has improved my soft skills during business meetings and for the organization of complex activities involving many people.
- Financial training helped me in the analysis of specific aspects of operational, liquidity and interest rate risks.
- Statistical methods have been useful in analyzing data and research information."
