    Public lectures, talks and symposia

Learning at the Barcelona GSE also takes place outside the classroom. The School organizes a series of weekly public lectures, talks and seminars as well as an annual academic symposium with influential outside speakers from the public, private, academic and non-profit sectors. These extra-curricular events expose our students to the frontiers of research and to the perspectives on current issues of internationally renowned scholars, politicians, business leaders and government officials. They also provide an informal environment to interact and meet the speakers and to pursue further discussion.

Starting in 2007, the School took over the organization of the ongoing Barcelona Economics Lectures, special open lectures delivered by leading researchers. Some of the past speakers include Dale Jorgenson, Professor at Harvard University; Torsten Persson, Professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm; Mathias Dewatripont, President of the European Economic Association in 2005; Edward C. Prescott, 2004 Nobel Prize in Economics; and Kenneth S. Rogoff, Chief Economist and Director of Research of the International Monetary Fund (2001–2003).
