Welcome to the Barcelona Banking Summer School (BBSS) The Barcelona Banking Summer School will be offered by the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics from June 25 to July 6, 2012. It is directed by Xavier Freixas, Professor in the Department of Economics and Business of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor, and Moshe Kim, Professor of Economics at the University of Haifa and former Visiting Professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The Barcelona Banking Summer School offers a variety of courses taught by recognized experts in their fields. The courses cover recent developments in different areas of banking, including theoretical and empirical aspects of banking, banking regulation and supervision, financial markets and payments systems. During the courses, the faculty are available to discuss research ideas and projects with the program participants. Course Offering Summer 2012All courses are 10 hours long. The schedule is as follows: The schedule of the Barcelona Banking Summer School is designed to allow students to participate in all the courses offered. However, courses can be taken individually. Call for papers There is a call for papers for students who wish to present their work. If you are interested in submitting a paper for review, please make your submission at summerschool@barcelonagse.eu. (Please put "banking call for papers" in the subject line of your email.) More information on the schedule of the papers to be presented will be available soon. Please note that the deadline for submitting papers is May 31. The schedule for the presentation of papers will be announced when the the selection of papers has been finalized. Textbooks The following texts are required and are included in the admission fee: Banking Theory course: Freixas, X. and Rochet, J.C., Microeconomic Theory of Banking, MIT Press, 1997. All other courses: Degryse, H., Kim, M., and Ongena, S., Microeconometrics of Banking Methods, Applications, and Results, Oxford University Press, 2009.
Entry RequirementsThe courses are designed for graduate students specializing in banking and financial markets, as well as faculty members or researchers, central bankers and regulators wishing to brush up on their knowledge of the field and be exposed to the latest advances in academic research. To be considered for admission, applicants must have: • Strong background in Economics • Working knowledge of English There is limited space in the Barcelona GSE Summer School Courses. Among the candidates who meet the eligibility criteria, the Barcelona GSE will select those with more outstanding professional and/or academic careers. Admission ProcessInterested candidates should send in their application form before the May 31. After this deadline, your place may not be guaranteed. Applications will be evaluated by the program directors and candidates will be informed of their decision. A document will be attached to our response with payment information. Before applying, please read through the summer school cancellation policy and other regulations. CertificateAt the conclusion of the Summer Schools, participants will receive a certificate for the number of hours attended. All Barcelona GSE courses require an average of twice the lecture hours for readings, pre-readings and class preparation. Interested students should check with their universities to see how these hours are transferable into ECTS credits. |
